The conservatory radical treatment of the breast represents a surgical intervention through which the malignant tissue is removed from the breast without removing the breast altogether. Also, in patients treated with conservative surgical therapy the specialist might also remove some of the axillary ganglions for biopsy. This method is called dissection of the lymph node. This procedure can be unfolded during the surgical intervention, or after it. Dissection of the lymph node is achieved through a separate incision.

Other types of surgical treatment include the following:
- Total mastectomy - This is the surgical method in which the specialist removes the entire mammary gland which contains the cancerous tumor. This method is also called a simple mastectomy
- Radical modified mastectomy - This is a surgical intervention in which the surgeon removes the entire mammary gland containing the cancerous tumor, a large part of the axillary lymph nodes, the tissue surrounding the thorax muscle and sometimes the surgeons removes some of the muscle in the thorax as well. Even though the surgical intervention removes the entire tumor seen by the doctor, the patient will still need radiotherapy, chemotherapy or hormonal therapy following the operation, with the purpose of destroying the cancer cells that are left.
Radiotherapy treatment for breast cancer - Radiotherapy is a therapeutic option through which the specialist sues x rays with high intensity and other types of radiation to destroy cancer cells. There are two types of radiotherapy. External radiotherapy uses a device outside the body, which generates x rays towards the area affected. Internal radiotherapy uses radioactive substances, implanted in the tumor or around it. The type of radiotherapy used depends on the stage and type of cancer that needs to be treated.
Chemotherapy treatment for breast cancer - Chemotherapy uses medicine that stop the growth of the cancer cells, by destroying the cells as well as by stopping the uncontrolled division of the cells. Systemic chemotherapy is administered orally or through injection in the vein or in the muscles, the medicine thus reaches the blood flow and destroys the cancer cells throughout the entire body. When chemo is placed directly in the spine, in one organ, within the abdomen, the medicine acts especially on the cancer cells in that area (regional chemo). The manner of administration and the type of chemo used depend on the stage and type of tumor that needs to be treated.

Hormonal treatment for breast cancer - Hormonal treatment is a form of therapy that removes the hormones or blocks their action, thus halting the growth of the cancer cells. Hormones are substances produced in the body by the endocrine glands and released directly into the blood flow. The presence of hormones can stimulate the growth of certain types of tumors.
