Causes Of Thyroid Cancer
The thyroid is situated right in front of your neck and when it is healthy you can't feel it with your hand. Its job is to release hormones. However, this thyroid can be affected sometimes and develop a tumor on its surface that can be either malignant or benign. If it is malignant it is called thyroid cancer and it can be removed completely if discovered in the early stages or the tumor can crush and the infected cells can go into the blood stream going in other parts of the body and causing the cancer to spread. This is usually the metastatic cancer.

Nobody knows for sure the causes of thyroid cancer, but we do know that there are a few things that can expose you more to this type of cancer and they are considered risks. The more exposed you are the more chances of getting thyroid cancer you have. However this is not a rule, as there have been a lot of cases of thyroid cancer in people who were not in any category of risk and other cases where those people who were exposed to multiple risks were perfectly healthy. One of the most important causes that determine the thyroid cancer is the expose to radiation, I mean to high levels of radiation that can happen in such cases as nuclear accidents like the one in Cernoble in 1986. The most affected people in this case were the children. Another possible cause is the too little or too big consumption of iodine in diet. Any of these two cases triggers problems in the thyroid functioning. Some pills that are taken for other diseases like the heart diseases cause the malfunction of the thyroid and this can lead to cancer, too. Too often radiation for therapeutic purposes can also trigger thyroid problems, so you would better avoid getting too exposed to such radiation like X-rays. Some people consider that overconsumption of foods containing big quantities of iodine can also lead to cancer.

According to statistics regarding the incidence of thyroid cancer, the most exposed people are the Caucasians when compared to other races and women when compared to men. The incidence is also higher in the case of older women over 65 and even higher in the case of women at menopause. Let's not forget the genetical factor which is very important because if you have somebody in your family suffering from thyroid problems, your chances of getting sick are bigger.

Of course you also have the chance to be healthy your whole life, but if you see that you are in a category at risk , you should better be careful about your health and diet and visit the doctor regularly for a check-up . It is also a good idea to keep your eyes open for any sign of disease because it is better this way and you stand more chances to be cured. So an informed person has more chances of staying a healthy person and will not ignore the first signs.
