They find their inspiration in the things they live, in what happens around them. As the whole world seems to be affected more and more by cancer, it would have been impossible not to have some influences on this topic in poetry. Poets are human, too, and they also have mothers and sisters and wives that can get breast cancer and suffer and die. So they bend over the table and write. They write breast cancer poems and they are sometimes full of hatred and anger and sometimes full of hope and trust.

Some of the poets writing these poems are exactly the women who experienced this terrible disease and fought it and won or they are still fighting it. As a matter of fact many therapists encourage breast cancer patients to write down their feelings regarding this disease because it helps accepting it and reacting better to treatment. All the anger and frustration kept inside is bad both for the spirit and for the body.
Many breast cancer patients who have some writing skills decided to make up a poets' club or better said supproting group where they all gather from time to time to read their poems and to encourage one another. They share their experiences and see they are not alone in this fight and feel better after that.
I read a lot of these breast cancer poems just out of curiosity, but I admit I was impressed and moved. Not all of them were fabulous and I could see not all the women who wrote them were really poets, but they were so sincere and personal that they made me cry. I read them and I suddenly felt closer to these suffering women, as these poems made me understand what is in their hearts and I saw a bit of their pain and also happiness.

I actually found a good number of web sites where you can read lot of inspirational stories about cancer and lots of breast cancer poems. If you are just a bit curious or if you are one of those who wrote such a poem , follow the links and you will get the chance to see others, too: www.gloriagemma.org, www.familyfriendpoems.com, www.breastcancerdiy.com, www.mammashealth.com, www.donnatrussell.com, www.freewebs.com, www.abcn.ca.
But remember, even if you are so sad when you read these poems, that there is always hope and those who choose to fight always stand a chance.
