Breast Cancer Campaign
Early detection of breast cancer can save lives. During the month of October will be held global awareness breast cancer campaign of the pink ribbon through visual media, print publishing, advertising, distributing pink ribbons and informational brochures, outdoor posters alluding to the campaign. All these methods are intended to aware the public of the dangers of breast cancer.

Breast cancer is the second most common cancer and second leading causes of cancer-related death in women. In 2005, in Chile, 1169 women died from breast cancer, with 14.2 per hundred thousand less women than in 2006. The mortality rate is declining and this is probably due to early detection and treatment which becomes increasingly effective.

"When I started the Awareness Breast Cancer Campaign in 1992, women suffered and died from this disease in fear and silence. Once I realized this, I knew I had to do something about it and I prepared to inspire women worldwide to find information about breast cancer and to visit her doctor once a year to get a mammogram starting with the age of 40. If I could save a woman by giving her information and knowledge, then my mission is accomplished, "says Evelyn Lauder, Founder and President of the Foundation for Breast Cancer Research.

There will also be debates on prevention and self-esteem in the Clinica Las Condes, Cordillera Peñalolén Health Center East, National Cancer Institute, Hospital San Juan de Dios, offering discounts on mammography and ultrasound for the month of October.

According to medical sources, over 50% of detected cancers develop in women with no breast cancer history, however it is necessary to take into account the risk factors, as from the age of 40 every woman should perform this procedure once a year. Personal history of treated breast cancer or history of a close family member treated for breast cancer are risks that increase the development of breast cancer in some patients.

But there are also other risk factors for breast cancer, such as first menstruation before the age of 12, menopause after the age of 55, obesity, first pregnancy after the age of 35, as well as nulliparity, which means having no pregnancies. Oncology Clinic Arturo López Pérez Foundation joins the global campaign on breast cancer prevention through a preferential discount of mammography with a value of $ 15,000. You can make an appointment at phone 4205100.

The breast cancer campaign became more and more popular and each October women see more commercials and pink ribbons than they see in the rest of the year. This way, they are reminded to go to the doctor, have a mammogram, as well as influenced to talk to their friends, mothers, sisters and other women about the importance of breast cancer prevention. Everybody knows that the best treatment for a disease is prevention. This is why it is important to have annual mammograms and monitor the situation so that you never have to deal with such a disease.
